Before opening its doors to the public, the founder of Roost in Heyshott knew that a strong visual identity was essential—one that would reflect the boutique countryside retreat’s charm and set it apart as the perfect destination for a cosy, upmarket weekend adventure.
Nestled between Goodwood, Cowdray Park, and the South Downs National Park, Roost boasts an exceptional location. The challenge was to develop a comprehensive logo suite that captured the essence of its surroundings while offering a flexible identity that could evolve with the business. This branding needed to establish a clear, compelling creative direction to inform future marketing, web design, and social media presence.

Through in-depth discussions, questionnaires, and workshops, we uncovered key insights to distil the essence of Roost into a visual identity that would resonate with its target audience.
We envisioned Roost as a place to pause, breathe, and retreat from the fast pace of everyday life—a sanctuary where guests could reconnect with nature in the heart of the South Downs. The branding needed to set the scene for adventure: where visitors could pull on their muddy wellies, explore the stunning countryside, and, at the end of the day, return to a beautifully designed, welcoming retreat.
To capture this essence at a glance, we crafted a colour palette inspired by deep, earthy greens—reminiscent of Hunter wellies and Land Rover Defenders—striking the perfect balance between adventure and comfort. Soft blue and gold accents introduce a modern, playful touch, reflecting both the variety of outdoor activities available and the fresh, well-equipped accommodation. Complementing this, an elegant serif typeface adds a timeless, quintessentially English feel to the brand.
For the motif, we were spoilt for choice with the wealth of countryside iconography. Ultimately, we chose the pheasant—an enduring symbol of the English countryside and a familiar sight from Roost’s windows. Perched high in the logo, its tail feathers blowing in the wind, the pheasant embodies the spirit of adventure, ready for all-weather exploration. A single stalk of corn pays homage to the surrounding arable fields, reinforcing Roost’s deep connection to its landscape.

Roost in Heyshott now has a visual identity that not only reflects its stunning countryside location and cosy, upmarket experience but also sets it apart from competitors. It positions itself as the place to stay—whether for a Goodwood event or a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, offering guests the perfect space to breathe, explore, and unwind.
